Personal Coaching

“Where are you now, where do you want to go,

and how can we work to get you there?”

What is it?

Personal coaching is a forward, future-facing approach to working to improve an individual’s quality of life. Different from the disciplines of counselling and psychotherapy, it has a strong focus on looking at the present and future. Personal coaching encourages, supports and empowers individuals to discover what it is they value most in various areas in their life and supports them to live with greater accordance to these values. Each person’s journey is deeply personal and unique and aims to support individuals to create lives that are personally meaningful and purposeful.

Who?

Personal coaching can be beneficial to almost anyone, but of particular use to those who are experiencing difficulty in finding direction, getting out of a “rut”, becoming “un-stuck”, or finding motivation to get through each day. People who have been doing the same thing for a long time and who are feeling disillusioned or bored, or those feeling like they are floating without direction or are in a period of transition (E.g. from study to work) may benefit from the guided support that coaching can offer.

What kind of things can it help me with?

  • Developing meaning and purpose
  • Developing direction in life
  • Evaluating what is working in your life and where you might want to make changes
  • Discovering core values and discovering ways to live in line with them
  • Making small of big changes in life to enhance life satisfaction
  • Creating personal and achievable goals
  • Increase motivation
  • Getting “un-stuck”!
  • Putting fun back into life!

How is it different from counselling or psychotherapy?

Personal coaching aims to support people to find direction and enhance their quality of life. It does not attempt to address severe mental health difficulties, addictions or personal traumas. People who have struggled with these difficulties may benefit from coaching when taking the next step forward into life and creating a workable life free from the deep depths that these challenges present. Where such challenges as still present, life coaching may support individuals alongside other treatment approaches.
